Hello!

This is what we’ve been up to the first few months of this fine year that is 2012;

Our creative teams were let loose in Amsterdam a couple of weeks ago, to attend the FITC event,  all of them came back which was a bit of a bonus. We are still waiting for a report of some sort….

We got some Webby nods on the People’s choice awards with the Subaru First car story project we worked on with the fine folks over at Carmichael Lynch.

Backing that up with a couple of Official Honorees for the Instagr.am Music Video mash up we produced for the Vaccines, and one for the Chevrolet – Ride of your life

We have got some new faces in the London studio; Senior designer Arnaldo B – (Si, B is for Brazil), 2 x Lindas from Sweden (We call them Ericsson and Karlsson, they are both producers and make sure things happen when they should), and our homeboy designer Adam. Check out what Arnie does here and Adams stuff can be enjoyed here

Ericsson is part of the London Rockin’ Rollers crew,  and Karlsson is a Hyper Island graduate, who took a detour via Spain before she decided that the British island was the place to be.
Our Belfast Massif has been joined by Rudolfs (Phyton Developer) and Chris (Front-end Developer, here’s an example of what he can do.

Also check out our This is my jam page where we’ll share some sweet music from the Belfast & London studios.

The geekiest way to start the year

The response from the www.therestartpage.com has been super awesome and very geeky.

You can reboot your system through a collection of vintage operating systems, from Windows 1.0 (1985) to Amiga Workbench 2 (1986) or Apple IIGS (1991). The restart page is a tribute to the evolution of the rebooting technologies that is part of our daily life.

The restart page was an answer to an invitation to collaborate with OFFF festival and YEAR ZERO project.

Created and designed by Barcelona agency Soon in Tokyo and produced by rehabstudio.

We’re back!

Apologies for the lack of blogging over the past couple of months, it’s not that we don’t love you anymore – honest it isn’t – we’ve been kinda busy cranking out digital niceness.

In fact, over the past few months the rehab gang have been heads down, nose to the grind pumping out projects for some of the worlds biggest brands and most awesome advertising agencies. We haven’t even had time to pop up for a whiskey.

As proof, here’s a sample of some of the great work we’ve been involved with, we collaborated with Wiedens on Honda, built a great game for Red Bull, set about saving the world with Google Ideas, built the first Instagram music video with Anomaly- and did something super duper awesome with a West Coast Agency and a legendary American brand which we can’t talk about just yet (we’ll let you know more as soon as we can, promise).

In the meantime, we’re back for good – so make sure you check here regularly if you are interested in us, our work – or coming to work for us.

Or whiskey, obviously.

Love rehab X

timnotjim not in his twenties anymore

Posted by Jade on: June 28, 2011 in: + rehabstudio, Culture, rehab life

As a lot of you will know Timbo in no longer in his 20’s…. He said goodbye to them in style last Friday with a massive party even rain couldn’t dampen!

Ladies and gents came from as far as LA to his abode in Dalston to get on it.

There was DJ GQ from the Belfast crew, Secret Sundaze DJ’s James Priestley & Ethyl DJ’s, and a lot of people donning beards and wigs to represent the main man.

There was even a dog with wings.

FYI – our hangovers are slowly clearing…

Secret Sundaze

Here at rehabstudio we operate a work hard, play hard policy. In truth it is more like a work very very hard, and play even harder policy.

This bank holiday weekend was no exception – the gang from rehabstudio London, boarded The Party Bus, a cross between a MEGA BUS and a Limo, complete with a box of Jagermeister…. Destination? Secret Sundaze. Somewhere in the docklands wastelands – by the O2.

True to our other big policy – what happens at Secret Sundaze stays at Secret Sundaze… We can’t tell you exactly what went down there, however hopefully these pics will tell some of the story.

rehab nets one of advertising’s top dogs

Fresh from leading the pack (no-pun intended) at innovative brand consultancy Erasmus Partners, is Boris the Spaniel, as a strategic and creative lead at rehabstudio.

An exceptionally humble individual of very few barks, Boris declined to comment, but everyone at rehab is super excited by his arrival. He’s made a cracker start so far!

Top dawg!

Ahoy me mateys!

Piracy is a crime and normally we at rehab do not accept it (or at least that is what we tell the clients anyway). But last week the London studio looked more like a rum-soaked scene from ‘Pirates of the Caribbean 3′ not because our Creative Partner, Tim Rodgers, was as beardy as ever, but because of his desk buddy ‘One-eyed Jade’.

Her super sweet eye patch wasn’t any kind of ode to sea dog Jack Sparrow, but shielding the rest of the crew from a painful eye-twitchin’ condition (poor Jade!) Either way it’s made for a bunch of good banter and some really bad shizzle from Tim.

Aaaarrrrrrgggggghhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!

rehabstudio and Google Creative Lab win two Silver World Medals at New York Festivals

Posted by Jade on: May 9, 2011 in: + rehabstudio, Art, Awards, Culture

We are VERY excited to announce the project Life In A Day has beaten 33 rival projects to win not only the Silver World Medal for Marketing Effectiveness, but also the Silver World Medal for Digital Interactive at the New York Festival International Advertising Awards!!

Life In A Day

The project won the awards after first facing the largest Grand Jury of any international advertising competition, made up of 300+ respected jurors from 65 countries at Creative Director level and higher. Having been finalised initially by the Grandees, the project then went in front of the Executive Jury, featuring 40 worldwide Chief Creative Officers. We then conferred medalist status on the project, a fantastic accomplishment for everyone involved in the project.

Big thanks to Google Creative Lab, YouTube, Scott Free and Toaster Ltd for working together to produce such an amazing, multi-award winning project!

rehabstudio launches Eric Whitacre’s 3D video ‘Sleep’

Posted by Jade on: April 8, 2011 in: + rehabstudio, 3D production, Art, Culture, Design, Music

Its April 8th 2011- and We’re super pumped, to announce the launch of our latest project, the Virtual Choir 2.0 for Eric Whitacre. We directed and produced the digital campaign and promo for ‘Sleep‘ featuring the record-breaking Virtual Choir 2.0, the world’s largest online choir. The launch kicked off in New York at The Paley Center For Media last night, which we attended.

The 2,051 submissions

The Virtual Choir 2.0, masterminded by the internationally respected composer Eric Whitacre, consists of 2,051 YouTube submissions from 58 countries which beats the previous record of just under 900. Most of the submissions can be seen on Virtual Choir Google Earth View.

Motion graphics production company, Cake partnered with us to create the promo – Virtual Choir 2.0 broke down physical barriers allowing people from all corners of the globe to be connected through the song, represented by interconnected planets grouping the submissions by country.

The team used Adobe AfterEffects during the animatic stage to showcase the concept for the promo, putting together simple animation with sketches to show timings and camera movements for the video. Once the animatic was completed the elements were brought to life in 3D.

The next bit was a massive technical challenge – making sure the videos from YouTube that were being used to produce the globes in the promo were all in the same formats and sizes. An automated system was used to process the videos making them all compatible. Once all the videos were synced, the globes were built using math expressions in Adobe AfterEffects, which allowed complete control of the animation of the globes in the 3D space. The other videos of participants were then used to create static rings around the planetary structures.

The finished work is something we are all very proud of so make sure you check it out.

Congratulations and a big thanks to Eric Whitacre and Decca Records for commissioning us be involved in the project!
